TRAINING HISTORY:

Dr. Bagniewski is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse where he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. His degree as a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine was obtained at Des Moines University-College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines Iowa. His residency training included conservative and surgical treatment of a wide array of Podiatric and Medical conditions. He did his training through the VA-Black Hills HealthCare System, VA-Puget Sound HealthCare System and Madigan Army Medical Center. His training lead to a well rounded approach to caring for the foot and ankle. All the Podiatrists that he trained under had a wide range of skills and training and allowed him to learn different ways to treat and manage different problems. With this, he learned that there is not just one way to treat that problem but many different ways to treat the same problem depending on what the patient needs and the patient’s situation. Dr. Bagniewski’s treatment is tailored to each patient.

SPECIAL INTERESTS:

Diabetes, Sports Medicine, Orthotics/Biomechanics

Diabetes is a very severe and growing problem in the United States and in the World. Each and every diabetic should see a Podiatrist annually at the very least. Podiatrists should always be a team member in the management of a diabetic individual. Just like a cardiologists, endocrinologist, ophthalmologists, nephrologists, primary care physicians, dieticians/nutritionist and many others just to name a few. Complications from diabetes occur when your blood sugar is elevated too high for too long. These complications in the foot are neuropathy, vascular compromise, ulcerations, infections, delayed healing, muscle weakness and Charcot neuroarthropathy. These complications can lead to pain, a non-functional foot, lose of foot, limb, life. Often times with preemptive education patients realize the signs and symptoms of these problems and can be treated prior to something getting bad quickly.

Orthotics are very important in the stability and support of the foundation of our body. We would not buy a house or a building with a poor foundation so let’s not live with a poor foundation. Custom orthotics are made to your foot structure and will benefit most people. Dr. Bagniewski knows and understands that the biomechanics of the foot can lead to pains in other parts of the body that can be treated with orthotics.

Sports Medicine is a very broad spectrum of patients from the weekend warrior to the athlete to the laborer to active duty military personnel. Some examples of these types of injuries are fractures, stress reactions or stress fractures, plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, ruptures of tendons and sprains of the foot or ankle. These injuries can be treated with conservative or surgical treatment depending on the situation. He has worked a lot with labor and industry over the last few years and prior to that treating active duty military personnel. He has also worked with a local Tacoma High School in the past to aid in the protection of the student athlete. He is also sports minded having been a college athlete and having run a marathon.
