Darrel Lewis was struggling with numbness in his foot and chronic back pain due to a sciatic nerve problem. Being a delivery driver, Darrel has to do a lot of lifting, twisting, and getting on and off his truck – routine motions that became increasingly difficult as his pain became worse.
As the weeks progressed, Darrel could not walk, let alone run, and started living what he called “a diminished standard of life.” Darrel would be hurting which meant that he couldn’t play with his son anymore. No more soccer, no more football, no more hikes. “It was pretty depressing,” Darrel explains.
Eventually it got to a point that Darrel thought there was nothing to lose anymore by having his pain treated. His research on treatments led him to seek out help from Doctor Kamson and Spine Institute Northwest.
Prior to his surgery, Darrel Consistently experienced pain levels of a ‘6’. His pain levels are now down to a ‘2’ -when he overdoes it. The numbness in his foot are almost completely gone and he gradually got better and better after his minimally invasive procedure.
Now Darrel can do a lot more than before the surgery both at work with his colleagues and at home with his family.
Even his co-workers have noticed the positive change. “I used to go back from deliveries limping at the end of the day and moving about at half speed,” Darrel explains. “They don’t call me gimpy anymore. I’m able to now get through a workday and do more activity afterwards.” No more tiredness from doing a difficult job and no more tiredness from enduring pain all day.
Darrel was also surprised that the procedure was done with ‘just a tiny incision in the back.’ Of Doctor Kamson, Darrel says that he is “extremely friendly and very good at explaining what to expect’ from the procedure.
Darrel recommends that the Spine Institute Northwest to “anybody having the same pain I did.”
“They worked miracles on what was wrong with my back. Don’t even think about it just head on down.”
